THE MAISON'S ADVICE

CARE GUIDE

Our stoles are chosen with love and deserve the same care. Silk, wool, cashmere, cotton or linen: each material has its own pace and its own fragilities.

A stole lives with us. We knot it, we take it travelling. Caring for it means respecting its rhythm.

First step, always: the composition label. It tells you what your stole is made of.

Here you will find all our advice and tips for caring for your Petrusse pieces.

THE ESSENTIALS, MATERIAL BY MATERIAL

SILK  ·  WOOL  ·  CASHMERE  ·  MODAL  · COTTON & LINEN

01

SILK

If the label recommends professional cleaning, follow it.

If you prefer to hand wash it, silk asks for nothing complicated: cold or lukewarm water, a dedicated product, and unhurried gestures, without rubbing, without wringing, without leaving it to soak.

After rinsing, roll it in a towel to absorb the excess water, then leave it to dry flat, away from the sun and any source of heat.

It can be ironed at a low temperature, on the reverse side, with a thin cloth between the iron and the fabric.

TO AVOID

Bleach, harsh stain removers, spinning, tumble drying, prolonged exposure to heat or sunlight.

02

WOOL

A gentle hand wash is perfectly possible, in cold water and with a special wool detergent.

Avoid temperature changes and rubbing, which cause felting.

Gently press the stole in a towel, without wringing it, then leave it to dry flat: hung up while wet, wool stretches under its own weight.

TO AVOID

Hot water, sudden changes in temperature, rubbing, wringing, hanging to dry.

03

CASHMERE

Cashmere likes cold or lukewarm water, a small amount of dedicated product and a short wash.

Choose a very gentle wash, by hand or on a delicate cycle if you are used to it.

Press without rubbing or wringing, then leave to dry flat.

Pilling is not a sign of poor quality: a cashmere comb, used gently, is all it takes to remove it.

MODAL, COTTON & LINEN

Modal follows the care rules of the most delicate fibre it is blended with, often silk.

Cotton and linen, which are sturdier, call for a moderate temperature and a light spin.

Linen creases: that is its character.

GOOD TO KNOW

BLENDED MATERIALS

When materials are blended, such as wool and silk or linen and modal, follow the material that makes up most of the composition.

For example, for a stole made of 80% wool and 20% silk, follow the care instructions for wool.

THE RIGHT GESTURES

HOW TO WASH?

In cold or lukewarm water,

Without rubbing,

Without wringing,

Without soaking.

HOW TO DRY?

Roll in a towel,

Then lay flat,

Away from the sun and any heat.

Never in the tumble dryer.

A STAIN?

Don't rub: dab with a clean, white, absorbent cloth.

For a stubborn stain or one of unknown origin, take it to a professional.

HOW TO STORE?

Clean, dry, folded without being compressed, away from light and humidity.

A little cedar or lavender for wool and cashmere, but never in contact with the fabric.

Change the fold from time to time.

YOUR QUESTIONS

Can a silk scarf be machine washed?

In principle, only if the label explicitly allows it. For a delicate piece, hand washing or professional cleaning is preferable, but if you know your machine well, you can wash your silk scarf on a delicate cycle.

At what temperature should silk be ironed?

The gentlest setting is recommended, on the reverse side, with a protective cloth.

How should a stole be dried?

Flat, on a clean towel, away from the sun and heat. Never wrung, never in the tumble dryer.

How can I stop cashmere from pilling?

Limit repeated rubbing, let it air between wears, and use a cashmere comb if needed.

How can I store a scarf without creasing it?

Folded without being compressed, in a dry place away from light. Change the direction of the fold from time to time.

What if the stole combines several materials?

Follow the label. Without more specific guidance, the care rules for the most delicate fibre remain the safest.

CARING FOR WHAT IS MADE TO LAST

For thirty years, Maison Petrusse has been exploring silk, wool, cashmere, cotton and linen. Designed at Château Mauriac and mostly made in France, these creations are made to be lived in, to last and to be passed on.

Caring for a Petrusse stole means extending its story.
