In partnership with the Maison Matisse, we have conceived an exclusive series of four silk scarves, each dedicated to a season—Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter—and directly inspired by the iconic cut-out gouache papers of Henri Matisse.
Beginning in the 1940s, Matisse developed a revolutionary visual language, combining drawing and sculpture through a free and vibrant gesture. He cut directly into color as one sculpts material itself: “To cut into color as if into flesh, to draw with scissors, reminds me of the direct carving of sculptors” (Jazz, 1947).
These scarves reproduce the compositions Matisse created in 1951 for the Japanese literary magazine Bungeishunjū, in which he embodied each season through emblematic shapes and hues:
Yellow for Spring,
Green for Summer,
Red for Autumn,
Pale grey for Winter.
Printed in France on an exceptionally fine silk twill, in a 65 × 65 cm format, these scarves are both exceptional accessories and fragments of art history. To tie, to collect, to gift—so as to keep a spark of Matisse close at hand.
